The Best Cities to Visit in Canada

Canada is a very big country supporting a wide diversity in landscapes but the top tourist attractions in Canada are the cities. The cities in Canada are perhaps as diverse as the country itself, with each having their own styles and presenting their own attractions. This means that the best things to do in Canada will depend upon which city you are in.

Here then are some of the most popular cities, with what are some of the best attractions in Canada.

1: Toronto

Toronto is often mistaken as being the capital of Canada; it is not but is probably the most visited. At 1815 feet the CN Tower, was at one time the world’s tallest free standing structure, the fact that it has lost this claim, has not deterred the tourists who flock to travel the glass elevator to the observation deck. Almost as popular as the tower is the Eaton center with 4 floors housing 250 stores catering to all tastes.

Vancouver is located in the west where the ocean meets the mountains. Covering 1,000 acres, Stanley Park caters to everybody with Rollerblading, hiking, biking, an Aquarium, a petting farm and many other activities. Close by Grouse Mountain provides skiing and other activities in winter but Capilano Bridge is open all year offering, as well as the suspension bridge, a network of cliff walks and treetop adventures.

Montreal is rich in a combination of both English and French history and its attractions are both old and new. Old Montreal was once a fortified city and is rich in 17th and 18th charm and today mixes museums with boutiques, giving it a unique character. The Underground City hosts half a million visitors a day in its 12km covered complex, featuring 33km of passageways connecting metro stops, shops and other attractions.

4:Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls is obviously an attraction because of the falls but it has other things to offer than those attractions connected with the falls. With perhaps one of the most famous views in the world, the Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort has 150 gaming tables, 3000 slot machines and floor space of 2.5 million square feet which includes a 1,500 seat theatre and other attractions. The city also has Marineland featuring Walrus and Beluga Whales and the largest indoor Aviary in the world.

5:Quebec City

Quebec City

Quebec City

Quebec City has the only remaining fortified old town north of Mexico, which with its cobbled stoned streets is a World Heritage Site. Much of the attraction of visiting Quebec is wandering through the architecture of the old town, enjoying the mix of shops, bistros and galleries. The Battlefields Park as well as being the site of the famous battle, between the French and the English, offers entertainment for children and other attractions.

Other major cities are Victoria, Calgary, Ottawa, Edmonton and Halifax and each of them is as diverse in character as the country is big in size. Each offering their own individual brand of attractions but all catering for the international visitor, whether they be young or old.
